![]() ![]() My impression is that a lot of tables ignore these technicalities anyway, so it's likely an invisible change in many situations. Thanks to the house rule, this is repeatable on subsequent turns. Instead, it's probably easier to waive weapon drawing rules, probably by saying "when you attack with a weapon in one hand, you can draw that weapon as part of the same action." That frees up your object interaction so that you could attack with your 1H weapon (drawn for free), use your object interaction to put your weapon away, and then use your bonus action to attack with the hand crossbow. I find that unsatisfying, however, as it's fairly unbelievable (which is important to me-YMMV). that's it! Is there anything I'm missing?įor house rules, obviously the simplest thing would be to just ignore that aspect of the ammunition property. ![]() With current rules, the only thing I can think of is with an artificer's repeating shot infusion, which bypasses the need to manually load your weapon altogether. ![]() ![]() So what are some options for enabling this sort of character with crossbow expert, either currently or via house rules? I'll list some of the things I've thought of, and would love to hear your ideas. This is because the ammunition property requires you to have a free hand. What it doesn't do, however, is allow for a classic 'swashbuckling' character that effectively uses a melee weapon and a hand crossbow together (arguably the intent of the feat!). It's well known that the crossbow expert feat turns the humble hand crossbow into an extremely potent weapon.
